Annie Rainwater Smith

August 21, 1919 — June 2, 2009

Mrs. Annie “Ann” Rainwater Smith, age 89, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Presbyterian Village. A native of Douglas County, she was born August 21, 1919 the daughter of the late Mr. Henry W. Rainwater and the late Mrs. Lilla Standridge Rainwater. She married Grady Abner Smith on September 5, 1941 in Atlanta, Georgia. Mrs. Smith was of the Baptist Faith and retired from Lockheed. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Grady Abner Smith, Sr. on May 17, 2000; her son, Charles F. Smith; sister, Helen Hallman; brothers, Isaac Rainwater and Harold Rainwater; and her son-in-law, Donald Groover. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Smith Groover of Carrollton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Grady A. “Sonny” Smith, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl Smith of Winston and Joel W. Smith and his wife, Pam Smith of Lithia Springs; two sisters, Lorene Boyd of East Point and Faye Greene of Douglasville; brother, Robert L. Rainwater of Rockledge, FL; sister-in-law, Jeanette Rainwater of Mableton; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, June 5, 2009 at 11:00 AM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Marr and Rev. Neil Awbrey officiating. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel Thursday, June 4, 2009 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Those desiring to do so may make contributions in memory of Mrs. Annie R. Smith to Presbyterian Village, Caring Hands Fund, 2000 East West Connector, Austell, Georgia 30106.
