Arthur Mitchell Van Meter, age 74, fondly known as "Mitch", passed away on April 22, 2024. He was born on July 24, 1949, in Mason City, West Virginia, to the late Mr. Howard Van Meter, and the late Mrs. Betty Price Van Meter.
Mitch was a dedicated IT specialist who truly had a passion for his work. Beyond his professional endeavors, Mitch was a man of many interests and talents. One of his favorite pastimes was riding motorcycles and he had a deep love for horses and the mountains. Mitch had a quiet and reserved nature but carried a fantastic singing voice. He found joy in simple pleasures like woodworking, gardening, yardwork, and was very fond of balloons.
Mitch also had a strong sense of duty, evident in his service in the Army during the Vietnam War. His military experience shaped him in profound ways and remained an important part of his identity throughout his life.
Mitch was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Betty Van Meter.
He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 55 years, Cathy Van Meter; sons, Shawn (Mary) Van Meter and Shannon (Yaneth) Van Meter; grandchildren, David (Becca) Fox, Sharon Moran, John Van Meter, Lillie Van Meter; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Olivia; special brother, Bill Blaylock; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The memorial service will follow at 6:00 PM with Rev. Sam Newman officiating.
