Mrs. Audrey Jeter, a cherished lifelong farmer and beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully at her home in Temple, Georgia on March 13, 2025, just shy of her 90th birthday. She was born on April 6, 1935, in Temple, Georgia, to the late Mr. Ahaz “AB” Payne and the late Mrs. Agnes Alena Cole Payne.
Audrey's career as a farmer was not just a job; it was a testament to her work ethic and profound love for the land. She embraced working with crops, cattle, and poultry. As a faithful member of her church, Audrey's spirit radiated warmth and kindness. She found joy in reading the Bible and attending services. Her welcoming smile and hearty laughter made her a treasured friend.
Family was at the heart of Audrey's existence. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, often expressing how proud she was of each of them. Described as an excellent cook, her kitchen was often filled with the enticing aroma of her delicious meals. Audrey had a zest for life that extended beyond her agricultural endeavors; she loved to travel the world, embracing new cultures and experiences.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Audrey is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Ronnie Harold “R.H.” Jeter; brothers, Frank Payne and Ferd Payne; sisters, Judy Harrington and Christine Campbell.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Judi (Larry) East of Temple GA, and Jennifer (Rick) Pugh of Temple GA; son and daughter-in-law, Hal (Paula) Jeter of Temple GA; grandchildren, Katie, Brannon, Bill, Brandon, and Josh; great-grandchildren, Abram, Lailah, Zoey, Lily, Abby, Canyon, and Lyric; sisters, Yvonne Payne Miller of Raleigh NC, and Kennethe Cotterman of Atlanta GA; sister-in-law, Nancy McSpadden of Atlanta GA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home - Villa Rica Chapel. On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, Mrs. Audrey will lie in state from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Concord Baptist Church in Temple, Georgia. The funeral service will follow beginning at 11:00 AM with Rev. Don Rackley officiating. Audrey will be laid to rest at Melrose Hills Memorial Gardens in Villa Rica, Georgia.
