Mr. Barry Wayne Head, age 77, of Winston, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024. He was born August 20, 1946 in Washington, GA to the late Mr. James Milton Head and the late Mrs. Minnie Louise Head.

To those who knew him best, Barry was not only the best husband and father, but also a true leader for his family. His selfless nature and solid presence made him a rock that his loved ones could always rely on. Barry took great joy in planning and ensuring the wellbeing of everyone around him. His exceptional financial advice provided a sense of security for his family and friends. Throughout his life, Barry had a remarkable ability to make lasting friendships. He possessed a magnetic personality that allowed him to connect with people effortlessly. As a result, he had numerous lifelong friends who held him dear in their hearts. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served the city of Atlanta as a fireman for almost 30 years, working his way to the rank of Section Chief.

From an early age, Barry showcased remarkable talent as a baseball player. His endless knowledge of the game earned him an invitation to try out with the L.A. Dodgers—a testament to his skill and dedication. Baseball was not only a passion but also an integral part of his identity. An avid fan of GA Tech football, Barry cheered passionately for his team. However, his enthusiasm didn't end there; he would support any team playing against the GA Bulldogs with equal fervor.

Not only did Barry excel in sports, but he also shined as an encourager and coach. He uplifted those around him and inspired them to achieve their goals through unwavering support and guidance. Many considered him their hero and mentor due to his remarkable ability to guide others towards success. In addition to sports, Barry had a deep love for golf and cards. These hobbies were not merely pastimes; they were outlets through which he connected with others on a personal level, creating cherished memories with friends and loved ones. More than anything, Barry embodied the values of discipline and integrity. His strong belief in fundamental principles guided his actions and influenced those around him. This unwavering commitment to living a life of integrity left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Barry Wayne Head will always be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, and an exceptional friend. His legacy will continue through the lives he touched and the lessons he shared.

Barry is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mrs. Brenda T. Head; sons, Kevin (Audrey) Head of Winston, David (Stefanie) Head of Carrollton, Dean Head of Atlanta; brother, Gary Head of Bremen; grandchildren, Evan Head, Emily (Billy) Ramsey, Karsen Hicks, Coleman Hicks, Cannon Hicks, Andrew (Ashley B.) Head, Alex Daulton (Ashley N.) Head, Aubrey (Zack) Johnson, Avery (Jordan) Mallory, Jacob Head; great grandchildren, Sadie Head, Miller Head and Reed Johnson; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Union Grove Christian Church on Monday, February 12, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Mike Mallory officiating.
