Betty Ann Gillyard Pope

Mrs. Betty Ann Gillyard Pope, age 75, passed away at her home on Saturday, June 29, 2024, on her seventy-fifth birthday. She was born on June 29, 1949 in Newnan, Georgia, to the late Mr. Thomas Z. Arnold and the late Mrs. Ruby Mae Wilkes Arnold.

Betty was a graduate of Luther Judson Price High School, Class of 1968. She pursued a career in cosmetology and worked as a hairstylist assistant, where she showcased her talent and passion for making others feel beautiful. Betty will always be remembered for her impeccable sense of fashion. She adored having her clothes tailored and had a collection of hats that she cherished. Her favorite colors were purple and gold, which reflected her vibrant and bold personality. In addition to her love for fashion, Betty had a keen interest in new cars, shopping, skincare, and flowers - particularly Tulips, Roses, and Calla Lilies. She appreciated the beauty in the world around her and embraced diversity with open arms.

Described as a woman who loved God, that was fun, fierce and outgoing, Betty never met a stranger. She had love for her family, was the life of the party and a self-proclaimed foodie who enjoyed different cuisines. Betty loved celebrating the holidays and especially loved her daughter, Symenthia, her proudest accomplishment. Her love for people knew no bounds as she treated everyone with kindness and respect without discrimination. One of Betty's milestones was her involvement in mission work with The 58 Mission. She dedicated her time to giving back to those in need and found fulfillment in making a positive impact on the world around her. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Harvey Davis Pope.

Betty is survived by her loving daughter, Symenthia Gillyard, who meant the world to her.

The memorial service will take place on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica with Elder Sedale Green, Dr. Horatious Harris and Dr. Jim Grieme officiating. The inurnment will follow at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens in Villa Rica.
