Betty Jean Compton Hartsfield, “Grammie”, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away Friday, July 25, 2014, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta at the age of 81.She was born September 13, 1932, in Madison County, Georgia, to the late Mr. Neal Atkinson Compton and the late Mrs. Jessie Lou Compton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Ralph Edward Hartsfield, in 2009; three sisters, Amanda Weart, Hulda Petty, Charlotte Cozens; and four brothers, Waco Compton, Wayne Compton, Neal Compton, and Thomas Compton.Mrs. Hartsfield was retired from The Lovable Company of Atlanta and Sears. She was a dedicated member of Community Grove Baptist Church for 24 years, a member of First Baptist Church of Lithia Springs and the Joyful Co-Ed Sunday School class for 14 years, and presently a member of First Baptist Church of Villa Rica and the Friendship Sunday School Class for the past 14 years. She was a devoted wife and mother and lovingly dedicated her later years to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Terry and Sherry Hartsfield of Carrollton, GA; Mr. Edward “Eddie” Hartsfield of Carrollton, GA; daughter, Mrs. Barbara Price of Douglasville, GA; six grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Monday, July 28, 2014, from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at 2:00 PM from First Baptist Church of Villa Rica with Rev. Jeff Powell, Rev. Clinton Reed and Mr. John Hartsfield officiating. Mrs. Hartsfield will lie in state at the church from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Mozley Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Betty requested that donations be made to the Children’s Ministry at First Baptist Church of Villa Rica, 1483 Highway 78 West, Villa Rica, GA 30180 or Association of Remarkable Citizens, Post Office Box 762, Carrollton, GA 30112.
