Mrs. Betty Jean Smith Holtzclaw, age 85, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026.
Betty was born in Douglas County and lived in Douglasville for most of her life. A mom to four, she worked several years for AT&T and its affiliates and later became a co-owner and working partner of C&V Sign Company with her husband.
Survivors include her children, Diane Hester (Jeff), Becky Brown (Gwynne), Gary Holtzclaw (Laura), and Jesse Holtzclaw; grandchildren, Jake Hester, Travis Holtzclaw (Allison), Ryan Holtzclaw (McKena), Trevor Holtzclaw (Alyssa), Lauren Holtzclaw, Katy Holtzclaw, and Connor Holtzclaw; great grandchildren Scarlett Holtzclaw, Easton Holtzclaw, and Lilith Holtzclaw; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband Clifford Holtzclaw, infant son Jason Holtzclaw, grandson Matthew Hester, and daughter in law Christine Holtzclaw; parents James Wyatt Smith and Lettie Davison Smith; siblings Vivian Cranford, Thad Smith, S.T. Smith, Herschel Smith, Harold Smith, Infant Iris Smith, and Preston Smith.
The family will receive visitors at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, 2189 Midway Road in Douglasville, Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 12:00 –2:00 pm. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm with Chaplin Brett Ellington officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 2433 Brownsville Road, Powder Springs.
