Betty Jean Smith Padgett

Mrs. Betty Jean Smith Padgett, age 88, of Temple, passed away, Saturday, May 9, 2020. She was born August 22, 1931 in Carrollton the daughter of the late Mr. Ivers Louis Smith, Sr. and the late Mrs. Elmer Christine Eskew Smith. She worked for the Hoisery Mill for many years. She was everybody's granny, loved gardening and sewing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Lee Padgett, Jr.; son, Timothy Wayne Padgett, sister, Barbara Cook; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Franklin Dye; brother-in-law, Tommy Jiles; sisters-in-law, Maxine Smith, Syble Smith. She is survived by her sister, Elaine Jiles of Carrollton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. Ivers Louis Smith, Jr. of Temple, Hubert and Shirley Smith of Newnan, Rev. Jimmy and Carol Smith Jeffersonville, Rev. Charles and Brenda Smith of Carrollton, Malcolm Smith of Villa Rica; brother-in-law, Rev. Ronnie Cook of Clem; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survive. We are still providing services to our families based on CDC Covid-19 guidelines. Private graveside service will be conducted. Private Graveside Services will be conducted from Star of Bethlehem with Rev. Roger Luke officiating. Interment will follow at Star of Bethlehem. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to Good Shepherd Ministries, c/o Ivers L.
