Betty Barfield Miller passed away peacefully on April 20, 2023 at Piedmont Fayette, GA hospital. Betty was born March 4, 1941 in Rockmart, GA and moved to the Atlanta suburbs in early childhood, she had an amazing work ethic that started as a teenager when she rode the bus to downtown Atlanta for employment at various department stores. Betty attended Douglasville High School and Clayton State University and was employed by a national life insurance company, Department of the Air Force, Federal Aviation Administration, and finally found her workplace home at the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) where her final position was the regional Administrative Officer. She enjoyed her time with ICE and made many lifetime friends, retiring in 2008 after 40 years.
Betty was a true Georgia peach and loved her birthplace state. She participated in 9 Peachtree Road Races and was a spectator during 35 additional years with her husband. Always of friendly nature, one of her favorite activities was taking evening walks to chat with her neighbors. She was a beloved wife, daughter, aunt, friend, neighbor and enjoyed traveling, visiting most of the continental states including Alaska, eastern and western Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Betty is survived by her husband of 43 years, Jerry Miller, her nephews Steve (Teresa) Barfield and Michael Barfield (Toni) her grandnieces Toni Barfield Blair (Chris), Kim Barfield Adair (Jerry) and Melanie Barfield, grandnephews Steve Barfield (Terri), Michael Barfield (Brittany) and several other nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her parents Gordon and Myrtle Barfield and her beloved brother WT Barfield.
Family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM. The funeral service will take place at 12:00 PM from the chapel of Jones-Wynn. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Douglasville.
