Betty Jane Spencer

Betty Jane Spencer, 92, of Douglasville, GA, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025. She was born on November 16, 1932, the daughter of the late Joseph Luther Pruitt and the late Ada Elizabeth Carter Pruitt.

Betty lived a life filled with purpose and dedication, making a positive impact on those around her.

Early in her career, Betty engaged in clerical work with an insurance company and the post office, showcasing her strong work ethic and commitment to service. She then found her calling as Director of the Child Development Center at First Baptist Church of Lithia Springs for over 20 years. Through this ministry she impacted the lives of many families and multiple generations. Beyond her professional accomplishments, she served in her community volunteering at Wellstar Douglas for an impressive 23 years.

Additionally she served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts for many years. This role allowed her to share her wisdom and guidance with young minds, fostering their growth and development.

After retirement, Betty and Bill traveled extensively all over the country enjoying time with their camping club.

Family meant the world to Betty. She cherished her loved ones, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her life. Her affection extended to her beloved rescue dog, Thelma, who brought her comfort and companionship.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Bill” Littleton Spencer; sister, Katie Louise Johnson; and brothers, Joseph Fain Pruitt, and Luther Benjamin Pruitt.

She is survived by her sons, Rick (Beth) Spencer of LaGrange, GA and Scott (Dayle) Spencer of Douglasville, GA; two grandchildren, Meredith (Zach) Miller of Auburn, AL, and Nicole (Zack) Holloman of Rydal, GA; and three great grandchildren, Hannah Helen Miller, Noah Richard Miller and Caleb Spencer Miller all of Auburn, AL; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 27, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Douglas Chapel.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Douglas Chapel with Rev. Mike Sinyard officiating. The interment will follow at Sunrise Gardens of Memories in Douglasville, GA. Pallbearers are Mickey Shelton, Sean Nelson, Zack Holloman, Zach Miller, Scott Morris, and Mark Wardlaw.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Lithia Springs, 10531 Veterans Memorial Hwy, Lithia Springs, GA 30122.

Betty leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and love that will be remembered by all who were fortunate to know her. As we celebrate her remarkable life, we hold dear the memories she created and the values she instilled in her family and community.
