Carrollton

Billy Thomas Garner, age 90, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026. He was born January 3, 1936.

Billy will be remembered as a hardworking man who found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. He cherished family gatherings and vacations - special times that brought him close to the people he loved most.

In his later years, Billy lived with his daughter and her husband, where he enjoyed a peaceful and content life. He loved sitting outside in the sunshine, watching the wildlife, and taking in the beauty of the world around him. He especially enjoyed spending quiet time in the woods on the property, keeping busy by cleaning up, beautifying the land, and trimming limbs along the wood line. Billy took great pride in staying active and always finding something to do.

Billy was patient, kind, easygoing, and carried a gentle, guiding spirit that comforted others. He was often smiling, joking around, and humming tunes, bringing warmth and lightness wherever he went. He was a man who gave good advice and could always be counted on when his family needed him.

Billy was a pillar of strength to his family and a man of deep faith. His love for God and for his family was at the center of his life. Those who knew him best would say that his love was “as big as the moon.”

Billy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Annie Ruth Poss Garner; his sisters, Essie Driver and Cordelia Strickland; and his brothers, James Garner, Robert Garner & Jerry Garner.

Billy leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be treasured by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, humor, strong work ethic, faith, and love for his family and friends will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Though he may no longer be sitting in the sunshine, watching the wildlife or working in the woods, his memory will remain as steady and comforting as the life he lived. He will be deeply loved, deeply missed, and forever remembered.

Billy is survived by his daughters, Sandra (Donn) Ferris of Winston, Georgia; Patsy (Perry) Green of Douglasville, Georgia; Kathy (Todd) Hill of Dallas, Georgia.

He leaves behind five grandchildren:

Stephanie (Daniel) Parks, Stacy (Ben) Allen, Laura (Mike) Ferris, Dylan (Darianne) Hill, and Hunter (Bri) Hill; and three great-grandchildren: Gracie Parks, Aidan Parks, and Luca Hill.

He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. They, along with all who loved him, will carry forward the memory of his steady presence, joyful spirit, and the deep love he shared so freely.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglasville Chapel.
