Billy Joe Smith, 78, of Winston, GA, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. He was born on April 6, 1947, the son of the late S. Howard Smith, and the late Sara Deal Smith.
Billy was a man whose life was marked by his unwavering faith, service to others, and commitment to his family.
Billy was a proud veteran of the United States Army, and he served his country with honor and distinction. Billy’s military service instilled in him values of integrity and dedication, which he carried through his life. After his time in the Army, he found a fulfilling career as a warehouse receiving supervisor in the trucking industry, where he was respected by colleagues for his exemplary work ethic and leadership. Billy retired from Freightliner after thirty-two years of service.
Billy was not only known for his professional accomplishments but also for his deep-rooted spirituality. As a devoted member of Beulah Church, he was recognized as a great warrior of his faith. He unashamedly professed his belief in Jesus Christ, sharing the message of hope and love with everyone he encountered. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, as he lived out his faith through acts of service and compassion.
One of Billy’s honors was his ordination as a Deacon at Union Grove Baptist Church in Lithia Springs in September of 1974. To him, being a Deacon was more than just a title; it was a role of servanthood to his Lord and Savior, as well as to his Church family. He embraced this responsibility with dignity and grace, serving as a guiding light to many.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved aunt Belle Deal.
He is survived by his wife Ivy Newborn Smith of Winston, Ga; son, Kevin Smith of Villa Rica, GA; daughter, Emily Seabrook of Winston, GA; children in love, Hannah Smith and David Seabrook; brothers and sisters, Bobby and Hope Smith; Rodney and Sandy Smith; three grandchildren, Kristian Alayna Nailen (Jason); Carter Seabrook; Sarah Kate Seabrook; great grandchildren, Freya, Roselia, and Luella Nailen, with new great grandbaby to be born January 2026; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 8, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Saturday, August 9, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Douglas Chapel.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Union Grove Baptist Church of Lithia Springs, GA.
Interment will follow at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
