Billy Marsh

November 19, 1926 — April 22, 2014

On the morning of April 22, 2014, Billy Wayne “Bill” Marsh peacefully passed away at his recent home in Douglasville, GA. Bill was born on November 19, 1926 in Cross Plains, TX. He grew up in West Texas, graduating from Sweetwater High School and earning a BS in Aeronautical Engineering from Texas A&M University and an MS in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He served in the Navy during WWII. In the course of his 35 years with Lockheed Missiles and Space Corporation in Sunnyvale, CA he participated in the development of Naval Aircraft, submarine launched missiles, and numerous classified missile and space projects. Bill was a technical lead on the top secret Corona Spy satellite project, which is now on exhibit in the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. The activities he enjoyed most were hiking in the Sierra Mountains, tasting fine Northern California wines, flying his private plane, taking aerial photographs, global traveling, and watching his family grow. He is preceded in death by his father, Tom M. Marsh, mother Carrie Gaines Marsh, and stepmother Jewell Marsh. He is survived by his wife Helena of 65 years, daughters Judy (Peter) Bowhall and Leslie Marsh, sons Curt (Ann) Marsh and Kent (Sherie) Marsh, sisters Sara Hampton Buchanan and Mildred (Jene) Jacoby, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Graveside Services will be conducted at Quantico National Cemetery on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Military Honors. Messages of condolence to the family may be sent at www.jones-wynn.com.
