On Friday, November 30, 2007, Bishop Raymond Edward Greenwood, age 51, departed this life at the Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Bishop Greenwood, son of the late Frank L. and Edna R. Johnson Greenwood, was born May 14, 1956 in Youngstown, Ohio. He grew and displayed his musical abilities to play the drums and piano. He graduated from South High School in 1974, also attended Choffin Vocational School specializing in auto mechanics. He was called to preach at an early age and has been a preaching machine ever since. In early fall he moved to Columbus, Ohio to attend Columbus Technical College where he earned his Associates Degree in Automotive Engineering. Shortly after his move, he met Marion Louise Slappy who he married on November 6, 1982. He served as associate minister of St. Matthews FBH Church in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Columbus State Community College with a BA degree in Theology. He began serving as Pastor at Mt. Pleasant FBH Church in Toledo, OH. He later served as Pastor at Pilgrim Community Church in Cleveland, Ohio, Fuller Memorial Tabernacle FBH Church in Atlanta, Georgia and HigherGround Christian Center in Douglasville, Georgia which he founded. He was installed as Bishop in 2004. He served on the Atlanta Police Chaplaincy Corps as Chaplin to zone 5 officers and employees. Bishop took several trips to Europe where he preached many revivals and won numerous souls for the Lord. He was inspired to write two manuscripts; the first he published in 2006 entitled “Fire In The House”. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Marion L. Slappy Greenwood of Douglasville; his daughter, Christina Rose Greenwood and his son, Darion Edward Greenwood; two sisters, Diane Greenwood of Douglasville and Roslyn White of Keller, Texas; one niece, Nikia Esters of Columbus, Ohio; four nephews, Dorian Esters of Douglasville, Edward White II, Matthew White of Keller, Texas, and Brandon White of WSMA WestPoint, NY; his loving godmother and aunt, Lily Wagner of Youngstown, Ohio; his uncle, Philip Johnson of Washington, DC, his loving aunt, Josephine Burgess of Franklin, NC; stepmother, Frankie Wilson Greenwood; two step sisters, Joann Radney of Youngstown, Ohio, Mrs. Marilyn Harmon of Ashtabula, Ohio and her two children, Marilyn and Marcus Harmon. His devoted members of HigherGround Christian Center and a host of other relatives and friends. Bishop Greenwood planted many seeds in many of our lives. It’s up to us to let them grow. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, December 7, 2007 at 1:00 PM from the Jackson Memorial Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia with Pastor Gregory Sutton and Bishop Nathaniel Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel Thursday, December 6, 2007 from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
