Bobbie Jean Hall (Thomas) was welcomed home by our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday morning, May 2. She passed peacefully just after waking that morning. Bobbie Jean was born on April 29, 1935, to Estelle Williams Thomas and Frank Thomas in Pendergrass, Georgia.
Bobbie Jean grew up in the Lawrenceville area of Gwinnett County, Georgia. She was the second oldest of four children, three girls and one boy. The family was close knit and lived in a home filled with love. When Bobbie graduated from high school she moved to Atlanta to work at Riches. She lived in a boarding house with several other young women. The boarding house dining room was open to others that lived in the area, and she met her future husband Jack Hall when he started eating there. They married when she was 20 years old, lived in Decatur, adopted two children and a few years later moved back to Lawrenceville. She was active in her children’s lives during their younger years and then worked some part-time jobs over the years as they got older.
Bobbie Jean (BJ) was a true servant of our Lord and displayed this in all parts of her life. She had a natural ability to see what someone needed whether it was water, food, clothing, etc. and then provided it. She would give anything she had if she found someone that needed it more. While living in the Greensboro, Georgia area she ran a “Thrift Shop” to make money to help those in need. She made friends with everyone that she met through this ministry.
Bobbie Jean was a natural caretaker and devoted herself to her family members whenever they needed care or just a little extra love. When she couldn’t keep them at home, she cared for them in the hospitals and nursing homes. She did volunteer work at several nursing homes over the years and only stopped when she was no longer able to drive.
Bobbie Jean was a master of many interests. She was a gardener, an animal lover, a traveler, a collector of angels, spoons, plates, pictures, figurines, and anything else that she found pretty or interesting. She became instant friends with most anyone that she met. Her mind was sharp and memory clear to the very end, but she was ready to go home to be with our Lord.
Bobbie Jean was preceded in death by her mother, father, her Aunt Winnie, her sister Marty Gibbs, her sister-in-law Barbara Thomas, her brother-in-law Evan Baker, her first husband Jack Hall, and her second husband Lee Allen Smith.
