Bobby Smallwood

Rev. Bobby Esker Smallwood, 86, of Villa Rica, Georgia passed away Friday, September 23, 2016. He was born May 13, 1930 in Villa Rica, Georgia the son of the late Mr. Johnny Esker Smallwood and the late Mrs. Lorene Deal Smallwood. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served from 1951-1956. He was ordained to the ministry in 1961 and served in the ministry for over 55 years. He began his Pastoral service at Utopia Baptist Church in Villa Rica. He went on to serve as Pastor at Harmony Grove Baptist Church in Temple, Mt. Oliviet Baptist Church in Dallas, Bethel Baptist Church in Temple. He returned to serve at Harmony Grove Baptist Church in Temple and retired serving at Utopia Baptist Church in Villa Rica. After retiring, he served as a song leader at Beulah Baptist Church in Carrollton. He was a devoted man of God that loved serving his flock, neighbors, friends, and family. He touched countless lives over the years by serving at many weddings and funerals. During his later years, every Tuesday at Walmart he devoted himself to witnessing to people about the Lord through the death of his beloved Wylene. He worked as a plant manager at Chalk Line Sewing Plant in Carrollton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wylene Joyce Driver Smallwood on November 16, 2011; grandson, Andrew Bobby Kirkland; and brother, Donald Smallwood. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Charly Kirkland of Villa Rica; sons and daughter-in-law, Greg Smallwood of Grayson, Noel and Mitzi Smallwood of Douglasville, and Kenneth Lee Smallwood of Villa Rica; two sisters, Marie Cole of Temple and Carolyn Weaver of Villa Rica; two brothers, Richard Smallwood of Villa Rica and David Smallwood of Villa Rica; eleven grandchildren, Scott Smallwood, Patrick Smallwood, Tyler Smallwood, Alaine Smallwood, Jason Smallwood, Justin Smallwood, Jared Smallwood, Kailin Smallwood, Weston Smallwood, Sam Kirkland, and Joseph Kirkland; two great-grandchildren, Skylar James Zurita and Cason Branch Smallwood; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica, Sunday, September 25, 2016 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, September 26, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Utopia Baptist Church in Villa Rica with Dr. Garland Odom and Rev. Clay Pawley officiating. Interment will follow at Harmony Grove Cemetery in Temple. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Scott, Justin, Jared, Patrick, Tyler, Weston, Sam and Joseph.
