Buford Smith

Buford Stanley Smith was affectionately known to his siblings as “Stan”. Stan was one of 13 children born to Eliza Mae Swanson in Atlanta, GA on November 12, 1954 and raised by John Henry Swanson, Sr. Stan was preceded in death by his mother, stepfather and two sisters, Rita Stidwell and Scharlene Geter.Stan was educated in the Douglas County School System. He was a 1974 graduate of Douglas CountyHigh School. Following high school, he was soon employed with Georgia Power Company where he retired due to health complications after 42 years of service.Stan joined Revelation Baptist Church of Lithia Springs, GA where he was baptized and served diligently for several years. He later moved his membership to New Bethel Baptist Church in Winston, GA where he attended until his health began to decline. Stan received his wings on Tuesday, December 20, 2016. He leaves ten 10 siblings to cherish his memory: Randy Smith (Judy), Brenda Taylor, Donald Swanson (Barbara), John Swanson, Jr., Janet Sexton (Gary), Marilyn Dallas (Darfus), Jackie (Alvin) McCullough, Moses Swanson (Helesia), Curtis Swanson, and James Swanson; God son, Brian Murphy, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Stan will be missed dearly by his family and friends, special memories of him will remain forever in our hearts.The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
