Carolyn Ewald

Mrs. Carolyn Ann Elander Ewald, 85, of Powder Springs, Georgia, passed away March 15, 2016 at her home, following an extended illness. She was born September 28, 1930 in Hinsdale, Illinois the daughter of the late Mr. William James Elander and the late Mrs. Almira Webster Elander. She married Ellsworth Eugene Ewald on March 15, 1963 and they celebrated 53 years of marriage the morning she passed away. In her earlier years, her family moved to Florida where she spent her youth and later worked in the insurance business. She did a short study at the Chicago Institute of Art. After moving to Georgia, she was an editor for the editorial department of Scientific Atlanta and had worked at Wegener Communications. She was a talented portrait painter. She loved horses and bred Scottish fold cats. Always active, she enjoyed horses, skiing, and riding bikes. She was an avid photographer and loved to travel. She was an exceptional cook, especially known for her homemade pies. Anything she put her hand to, she did well. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Sally Phillips, and Marian Elander. She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Ellsworth Eugene Ewald of Powder Springs; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah Beth and Gustavo Halley of Kansas City, MO and Jane and Todd Freeman of Powder Springs; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert David Hammock of Indian Rocks Beach, FL and Dale and Michele Ewald of Roswell; stepson, Phillip Ewald; brother and sister-in-law, William James “Billy” and Lynn Elander of Sparks, NV; five grandchildren and their spouses, Kymm Hammock, Francesca Halley-White and her husband, Derek, Cassie Naylor and her husband, Caleb, Trevor and Brooke Freeman, and Tyler and Tiffany Freeman; two great-grandchildren, Wyatt Naylor and Ellie Kate Freeman; and one joyfully anticipated great-grandchild due in May; several nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be conducted Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Powder Springs First United Methodist Church with Pastor Roger Vest officiating.
