Charles Edward Allen, Sr. Charles Edward Allen, Sr., 79, of Villa Rica, Georgia passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Allen was born September 7, 1928 in Dooly County, Georgia, the son of the late Mr. George Parker Allen and the late Mrs. Elfie Chance Allen. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Lynn Allen; one brother, George Albert Allen; one sister, Sara Allen; and one brother-in-law, Max Seals, one sister-in-law, Helen Womack Allen. Mr. Allen worked with Fisher Body that later became General Motors, he was a self employed grocer operating a Rolling Store and he owned an operated the Jr. Food Store for 17 years, and after retirement he worked with McNeilus for 20 years. Mr. Allen was a Charter Member of the First Pentecostal Church of Villa Rica where he was Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Song Leader. He was an avid fisherman, loved softball and actively played until the age of 50. Mr. Allen was a collector of coins and knives. His great loves, besides his wife, were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Allen was affectionately known as PawPaw. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife of over 58 years, Mrs. Mary Kate Allen of Villa Rica, sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Eddie and Penny Allen, Dennis and Janet Allen of Jacksonville, Florida; three sisters and two brother-in-laws, Frances and Virgil Barber of Villa Rica, Dorothy Allen Seals of Villa Rica, and Agnes and Lee Lamanac of Woodstock, Georgia; one brother, Earnest Luther Allen of Dawson, Georgia; and one sister-in-law Willie Mae Cole Allen of Alabama; four grandchildren, Aaron and Kelly Allen, Kevin Allen, Tony and Karen Brown, and Amanda Allen and three great grandchildren, Katie Brown, Lily Allen, and Kylie Brown and several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Allen will lie in state from 12:30 until the funeral hour. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 1:00 PM from the First Pentecostal Church of Villa Rica with Rev. Benny S. Cole and Rev. Johnny Peacock officiating. Soul Purpose and Keith and Jennifer Staton will render the music. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Villa Rica. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica on Friday, August 22, 2008 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and then again from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
