Mr. Charles J. Gonzalez, of Villa Rica was born March 19, 1927, in Jamaica, Long Island, New York to Charles J. Gonzalez, Sr. and Anna Brown Gonzalez and died January 26, 2011. Charlie was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy. Later he was employed in the printing industry by Columbia Records in Bridgeport, Connecticut and in Hawthorne, New Jersey. In 1969, he moved to Augusta, Georgia, where he was employed by Esselte-Pendaflex Corporation. Charlie retired to Villa Rica in 1996, and served as elder, Sunday School teacher and choir member. He was also a member of American Legion Post 178 in Augusta, Georgia. Charlie enjoyed golf, the Braves, singing, playing the trumpet, telling stories and watching classic movies. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James Gonzalez, and daughter, Linda Gonzalez. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Gonzalez; daughter Diane Hanson and her husband, Marvin Kaplan of Boca Raton, Florida; three grandchildren Shannon and her husband, Mark Brown, Keith Hanson, and Shayla Hanson; and great-granddaughter Cassidy Brown; three stepchildren James Oakes of Villa Rica, Jeanne and her husband Alan Shipp of Dallas, Georgia, and Susan and her husband Larry Jarrett of Dallas, Georgia; four step-grandchildren Leigh Shipp Muniz and her husband, Daniel, Kathryn Shipp, Ben Jarrett, and Emily Jarrett; and step-great-granddaughter, Olivia Muniz; brother, Edward Gonzalez of Kew Gardens, New York; and sisters Genevieve and her husband Ralph Wilson of New Bern, North Carolina, and Pam and her husband Richard Santucci of Harrison, New York; and nieces and nephews. In accordance with his wishes the body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Villa Rica, 519 Main Street, Villa Rica, Georgia on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 3:00 PM. A Reception for family and friends will follow the service in the fellowship hall.
