Mr. Charles Edward Marsden, 76 of Douglasville, GA, passed away on November 19, 2024. He was born September 05, 1948, in Brockton, Massachusetts to James Edward Marsden and Dorothy May LeBeau. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Arleen, and only son James.

Charles married Arleen November 10, 1984, and together welcomed their son, James Edward Marsden into the world on October 21, 1987. At the tender age of 25, James lost his life in a car accident. Charles was never the same after his son’s passing.

After graduation from Douglas County High School, Charles was drafted into the US Army and earned multiple marksman awards while being trained as a medic. After Vietnam he began his career with Steel City Construction building sewer plants. After 15 years with Douglasville Water Department then with WSA (Water Sewer Authority,) Charles retired and went home to raise their son James. There, Charles worked on his amateur astronomer and weatherman skills, always sharing his wealth of knowledge and interests with their only son, James, and anyone else that expressed interest. Charles also raised over a hundred Redwood trees-most he gave away. Many of these trees still grace the lawns in Douglas County, the Georgia’s Governor’s Mansion, The Atlanta Botanical Garden’s, and Berry & Rhinehart College on the North Georgia campus.

Charles left a mark on the lives of his friends and never met a stranger. We would like to thank his caregivers: Lily, Marcia, Fay and Shawnna, transportation drivers Keandra and Mike, the staff of WellStar Douglas (especially the ICU ladies), the staff of Dr. Shroff’s office and Village Medical, Amedisys Home Health (and Nurse Rachel) and the Fresenius Timber Ridge dialysis clinic

A memorial service will be held at a later time as per Charles’ wishes. In lieu of flowers, the friends ask you to share a meal with someone you love or buy a meal for someone that doesn’t have family, take time to look up at the stars in awe and wonder, watch a train, or drink a Corona.
