Mr. Charlie Thomas “Buhba” Washington, Jr., the fourth of seven children, was born September 27, 1932 in Atlanta, Georgia the son of the late Charlie and Leola Washington. He departed this life Thursday, December 21, 2006 at Heartland Hospice in Austell, Ga. He attended Hutchinson High School and joined Tranquil AME Church at an early age. He later joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea during the conflict. After serving his country in the Army, he worked as a hospital orderly. Charlie leaves behind a host of family members to cherish his memory. His wife of fifty-one years, Essie Washington; two daughters, Myrtice (Ralph) Short, Douglasville, Ga., Connie Washington, Villa Rica, Ga. and three sons, Ray Charles, Danny and Randy Washington all of Douglasville, Ga., two step-sons, James Brown, Sacramento, Ca., Mickey (Margaret) Brown, Stone Mountain, Ga., four step-daughters, Eloise (Harry) Springer, Douglasville, Ga., Mary (Lewis) Birdsong, Powder Springs, Ga., Savannah (Willie) Price, Douglasville, Ga., Paulette (Michael) Hammons, Cincinnati, Ohio; six sisters of which two; Artelia Watkins and Lelia Terry preceded him in death, Zephyr (Jimmy) Martin, Irene Sims, Mildred McCoy, and Helen (Leroy) Upshaw; 30 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 11:00 AM with Rev. J. Larry Ervin, II Pastor and Rev. Archie W. Morris, Jr. officiating. Interment and graveside service will follow at Georgia National Cemetery at 2:30 PM with military honors rendered by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Wednesday, December 27, 2006 from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Messages of condolences to the family may be sent to www.jones-wynn.com.
