Mrs. Charlotte Cardell Peters, age 67, of Shawnee Trail, Douglasville, Georgia passed away Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Heartland Hospice in Austell, Georgia following a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born July 30, 1940 in Newton County, Georgia the daughter of the late Mr. George William Cardell, Jr. and the late Mrs. Odessa Knight Cardell. She was raised in Social Circle, Georgia, where she graduated high school and married David Rogers Peters on June 21, 1958. Mrs. Peters served the State of Georgia for 35 years working as a secretary for the Georgia Legislature, serving several distinguished Representatives and Senators including Tom Murphy, Culver Kidd, Sonny Huggins, Hugh Gillis, Sr., Max Brannon, and Steve Henson. Mrs. Peters was a longtime member of County Line Baptist Church and an active member of the Ama-Kanasta Garden Club in Douglasville. She was a devoted wife, and loving mother and grandmother (“Mimi” to her four granddaughters), and avid world traveler. In addition to her parents, and stepfather John C. Thomas, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Mr. David Rogers Peters, Sr. in March of last year. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Ron Zepp II of Winston; son and daughter-in-law, David and Julie Peters, Jr. of Dallas, GA; sister, Sandra Stargel of Monroe; brother and sister in-law, Larry Sr. and Diane Cardell of Covington; granddaughters, Desiree Zepp, Lauren Peters, Jessica Zepp, and Melanie Peters; several nieces and nephews; along with many close personal friends. In spite of being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, pancreatic cancer in 2006, and losing her husband and mother in 2007, Mrs. Peters maintained a positive attitude to the very end. Her inspiring attitude, abundant energy and winning smile will be sorely missed by all who loved her. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 1:00 PM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Adair officiating. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel Tuesday, May 27, 2008 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Piedmont Hospital Oncology Action Fund, 1968 Peachtree Rd, N.W., Atlanta, GA 30309 (donations in Charlotte Peters’ name will be designated for pancreatic cancer research) or County Line Baptist Church Youth Fund, 1814 North County Line Road, Lithia Springs, Georgia 30122.
