The beloved Cherriffe Nelson, known to family and close friends as "Sheree", was born November 27, 1969 to the lovely Yvonne Goldson and Howard Nelson in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Cherriffe came to the United States at the ripe old age of six years old and resided with her Mom in Brooklyn, New York.
Cherriffe attended elementary and middle schools in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. She also attended Edward R. Murrow High School. After high school, Cherriffe gave birth to her first son, Saiquon Kirkland, also known as Boobie-Doo. Saiquon was the apple of her eye. She later attended Brooklyn College where she studied law all the while working at Alliance for Health and taking care of her son.
Cherriffe was well-known for her love for music and dancing but known mostly for her passion for cleaning. She would rise early on Saturday mornings, blasting the latest hits by Tina Turner or Michael Jackson and have her younger siblings Shawn, Marlon and Marrion to assist with household chores.
In 1994, she gave birth to her second son, Christopher, also known as Teddy Bear. As Saiquon started to become a young man, Chris now became the new baby for Cherriffe to love. A few years later, Saiquon became a dad and Cherriffe became a grandmother. Adin was born and gave Cherriffe's life a new purpose. She helped Saiquon love and care for Adin just as her mom did for her. Cherriffe and Adin's bond became so strong you would never find one without the other. He became her shadow along with the family dog, Dubai. In 2006, Cherriffe moved to Georgia with her little sister, Marrion. Together the two sisters joined as one and provided a beautiful life and home for their children. Cherriffe worked at Bank of America, where she developed a close relationship with her co-workers. Cherriffe spent unforgettable memories with her family on special occasions and holidays while residing in Georgia until she became ill. Cherriffe Nelson died on February 6, 2020.
Cherriffe Nelson is survived by her two sons, Saiquon Kirkland and Christopher Blackman; her mother and step-father, Yvonne Goldson and Earl; grandson, Adin Kirkland; her sisters, Marrion and Natalie; her brothers, Shawn, Marlon, Kareem and Christopher; aunts, Maxine, Marcia, Julette, Pat, Hope and Judy; uncles, Leroy, Morris, Winston and Lloyd; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family dog, Dubai.
