Collins Eugene Walton, (Retired Major, Douglas County Sheriff Office), age 86, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Saturday, December 11, 2010 following an extended illness. He was born May 23, 1924 in Hiram, Georgia the son of the late Mr. Fred Walton and the late Mrs. Myrtie Collins Walton. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Douglasville. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of Sweetwater Shrine Club. He was a member of the Douglasville Masonic Lodge #289 F&AM. He retired with the rank of Major from the Douglas County Sheriff Office following 22 years of dedicated service to the Douglas County community. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Walton and his sisters, Emma Lee Smith and Wilma Walton Eberhart and his brother, Frank Walton. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jeraldine Patricia Cowart Walton of Douglasville; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Karen Walton of Covington; sister, Virginia Camp of Dallas; four grandchildren, Daniel Walton, Jonathan Walton, Steve Walton and Jessica Scoggins; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 1:00 PM from the First Baptist Church of Douglasville with Dr. John Pennington and Sheriff Phil Miller officiating. Major Walton will lie in state at the church from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Douglasville. Military Honors and Departmental Honors will be provided by the Douglas County Sheriffâs Department Honor Guard. Members of the Douglas County Sheriffâs Office will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Douglasville Lodge #289 and the Douglas County Sheriff Office.
