Daniel Bernard

February 18, 1952 — January 10, 2026

Lithia Springs

Daniel Bernard, 73, of Lithia Springs, Georgia, passed away with his son by his side on Saturday, January 10th, 2026, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born on February 18th, 1952, in Port au Prince, Haiti, he was the beloved son of the late Joseph Milien Bernard and the late Marie Thérèse Suze Pelerin Bernard.

Daniel was a man of quiet depth, remarkable intelligence, and unmistakable presence. Reserved and independent by nature, he was never one for crowds or unnecessary attention. Yet, those who truly knew him understood the richness of his character, his loyalty, and the deep love he carried for his family. He was generous in ways both practical and profound, always willing to help, always showing up when it mattered most.

From childhood, Daniel showed the gifts that would define him throughout his life. He was a natural builder and problem solver, often happiest when working alone with his hands. As a boy, he preferred tinkering over toys, fixing things around the house, constructing elaborate kites for neighborhood competitions, and even building a dollhouse for his sister. That early curiosity and skill blossomed into a lifelong talent for understanding how things worked—and how to make them work better.

Daniel attended Jean-Marie Guilloux Primary School and St. Jean for Secondary School in Haiti. He came to the United States on March 27th, 1971 and enrolled in York College in Jamaica, Queens. He also obtained his HVAC certification, and because he was exceptionally gifted technically, everything else was self-taught. While many knew him for his mechanical abilities and hands-on skills, his true career was in Information Technology, where he built a respected professional life and eventually retired after years of dedicated service with Unisys, a global tech solutions company. His knowledge spanned IT systems, electronics, automobiles, carpentry, plumbing, and general repair. He was the person everyone called when something broke—because Daniel could fix almost anything.

Beyond his abilities, Daniel was unforgettable in presence. He was strikingly handsome, with a cleft chin and a smile that could light up any room. He carried himself with natural confidence and was often described as effortlessly “cool.” He took pride in staying fit and energetic, and even into his seventies, he looked far younger than his age. He did not care for fuss or attention, preferring a simple life, his independence, and his privacy.

The greatest love of Daniel’s life was his only son, Patrick Bernard. Daniel adored Patrick deeply and would have given him the world without hesitation. His devotion as a father was unwavering and profound. He also shared a special bond with his mother, who loved and spoiled him dearly—a relationship that shaped him with both tenderness and strength.

Daniel is survived by his beloved son, Patrick Bernard; his sisters, Marie Appoline Elivert, Marie Paulette Laroche (Jean Claude) Filien, and Marie Thérèse Delerme; his brother, Jacques R. Bernard; his nieces and nephews, Marie Romy Taylor, Judy Rosalie Belnavis, Alain Milien Bernard, Claude Elivert, Roosevelt Elivert, Joanne Eve Carroll, Ralph Lucien Laroche, Chantal Laroche Veira, Betty Delerme Phanor, and Gardy Delerme; and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews who will carry forward his legacy of strength, skill, and quiet integrity.

Though Daniel lived privately, his impact was powerful and enduring. He will be remembered for his craftsmanship, his intelligence, his independence, his generosity, his loyalty to family, and the steady, reliable way he moved through the world. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the problems he solved, the things he built, and the love he gave.
