David Clifton Cantrell, age 89, known affectionately as "Curly," passed away on May 3, 2024. He was born on October 20, 1934, in Georgia, to the late Mr. David Andrew Cantrell and the late Mrs. Isabel Jones Cantrell.
During his time on earth, David forged a career at GMC as a talented body man and manufacturer, showcasing his skills and dedication. He was admired by many for his work ethic. Beyond his professional achievements, David was a man of many passions. He found joy in playing slot machines, indulging in poker nights with friends, and mastering the art of bowling as an active member of a bowling league.
He had a warm personality and he was known for being funny, honest, trustworthy, and fair in all his dealings. One of the fondest memories shared by those who knew him was his love for Waffle House. The Waffle House on Hwy 5 even had a special dish named after him - the "curly special".
In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his brother, Richard Cantrell; sisters, Leona Tiller, Elsie Parramore, and Wilma Sims.
David is survived by a loving family that includes children, David Rena Cantrell, Kenneth Michael Cantrell, and Wanda Gail Strawn; grandchildren, Curtis Joshua May, Brandon David May, Gabriel Thomas Strawn, Bonnie June Cantrell, Krista Kaye Cantrell, Joni Diane Gilham; great-grandchildren, Lucas Daniel Gilham, Cloey Diane Gilham, Ansley Diane Gilham, Eliah David Gilham, Jedidiah McQuay, Jaedon McQuay, Malachi Joshua May, Jedidiah Maximus May, Tylin Tyrone Blount, William Alexander Cox; brother, Charles Henry Cantrell; sister, Lola Mae Thompson.
In accordance with his wishes, Mr. David Cantrell was cremated.
