David Franklin Wilkes

David Franklin Wilkes, age 78, of Rossman Dairy Road, Moultrie, Georgia passed away November 10, 2010 at his residence. He was born September 17, 1932 in Colquitt County Georgia, the son of the late Frank Elmer Wilkes and the late Nona Mae Robinson Wilkes. He was retired from Arnett Milling Company in Bay and he attended Poplar Arbor Congregational Christian Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-granddaughter, Carrie Duncan Summerlin; brother, J. W. Wilkes; sister, Joyce Ann Burnham. Survivors include his wife, Janelle Sellers Duncan Wilkes of Moultrie; three step children and their spouses, Bobbie and Bill Nevels of Sale City, Kenneth and Amy Duncan of Villa Rica, Sharon and Eddie Summerlin of Moultrie; sister, Myrtle Kelley of Moultrie; step-grandchildren and their spouses, Melissia and Randy Bennett of Norman Park, B.J. Nevels of Sale City, Calvin and Jessica Summerlin of Moultrie, Haleigh Duncan of Columbus State University, Columbus, Cole Summerlin of Moultrie, Forrest Duncan of Villa Rica, and Kara Duncan of Villa Rica; five step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Tim and Jan Burnham of Moultrie, Jimmy and Carolyn Burnham of Arabi, Jill and Keith Hunter of Albany, Steve Wilkes of Baton Rouge, LA and Karen Wilkes of Prairieville, LA; five great-nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Erlean O’Coine of Moultrie. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 2:00 PM from the Poplar Arbor Congregational Christian Church with Rev. Terrell Mann and Pastor Ken Anderson officiating. He will lie in state at the church from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Piano music will be by Doyce Davis. Interment will follow at Suncrest Memorial Gardens, with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers, B. J. Nevels, Calvin Summerlin, Cole Summerlin, Forrest Duncan, Bob Arnett, and Nick Burnham. The family will receive friends Friday, November 12, 2010 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Cobb Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Colquitt Regional Hospice, P. O. Box 3548, Moultrie, Ga., 31768 or Poplar Arbor Congregational Christian Church, 4614 Funston Sale City Road, Sale City, Georgia 31784.
