David Stewart

Mr. David Wallace Stewart, 88, of Winston, Georgia passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at his home. He was born November 11, 1925 in West Palm Beach, Florida the son of the late Mr. Tom Stewart and the late Mrs. Gussie Mae Wallace Stewart. David served his country as a Marine in World War II in occupied China where he saw the Great Wall of China for the first time while being flown upside down in a fighter plane. He also served in the Korean conflict in an air command support group. After receiving an Honorable discharge at the end of World War II he met and married Frances Lyons and have been married for 66 years. David provided for his family, working as an electrician and a member of the IBEW Local 613 for 66 years. He was a long time member of the East Point Masonic Lodge #288 and Yaarab Shrine Temple. David and Frances have been members of Pray’s Mill Baptist Church for over 25 years and active in their Sunday school class. David enjoyed riding motorcycles and as a young man, racing for a short time at the old Lakewood Fairgrounds track. Later he rode his Harley Davidson for pleasure. He also enjoyed riding horses, parading with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Posse and the Shrine Mounted Patrol. His retirement years have been spent as a “Master Tinkerer” working at home. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Stewart; and brother-in-law, Harold T. Tidwell. He is survived by his loving wife, Frances Lyons Stewart of Winston; his children and their spouses, Donna and Jack Mirable of Memphis, TN, Lee and Nancy Stewart of Winston, Frank and Joyce Stewart of Cleveland, TN, and Harold Stewart of Winston; sister, Betty Tidwell; grandchildren, Anthony Mirable, Joey Mirable, Phillip and Michelle Stewart, Jennifer and Kevin White, Christina and Jonathan Hodge, Jessica and Kyle Richardson and April Stewart; great-grandchildren, Haley, Kaitlyn, and Collin; nieces and nephews, Tommy Tidwell and Cheryl and Bill McCarthy, Carl Lyons, Rusty and Pam Lyons and Chris Lyons. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Friday, May 16, 2014 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, May 16, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville with Pastor Josh Buice officiating. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Park in Atlanta with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corp Honor Guard.
