Delbert James Carlisle

Mr. Delbert James Carlisle, age 87, of Lithia Springs, Georgia, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Wellstar Cobb Hospital. He was born January 14, 1922, in Plymouth, Indiana, the son of the late Mr. Charles Albert Carlisle and the late Mrs. Essie Catherine Blanchard Carlisle. He married Wilma Jean Wright on May 9, 1948, in Plymouth, Indiana. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lithia Springs. Mr. Carlisle worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Carpenter’s Union. He was a State Farm Agent. He was an avid reader and loved music. He enjoyed sharing his musical talent with others by singing in a quartet. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Louise Peterson Carlisle; his son, Dr. Ronald Lynn Carlisle; sister, Ruby M. Marsh; and brother, Darrell B. Carlisle. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mrs. Wilma Jean Wright Carlisle of Lithia Springs; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and James McLeroy of Tyrone; sons and daughters-in-law, Lane and Kathleen Carlisle of Conyers and Wane and Melanie Carlisle of Lithia Springs; and Susan Welden Carlisle of Kennesaw; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Lithia Springs with Dr. Larry Wilson and Dr. Orin Sampson officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 12, 2009, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Carlisle home at 6138 Brownsville Road, Lithia Springs, Georgia. Mr. Carlisle’s final resting place will be at New Oakhill Cemetery in Plymouth, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Carlisle may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Lithia Springs, P.O. Box 627, Lithia Springs, Georgia 30122.
