Villa Rica

DeLoris (Dee) Roberta Gibson, 98, of Villa Rica, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024. She was born on May 31, 1926 in North Bend, North Dakota to the late Robert Weiss and Martha Lubenow Weiss. Dee spent her childhood in North Dakota before moving to California where she met and married Lee Gibson. They lived in Whittier, California for 32 years. Lee worked in construction in Los Angeles while Dee stayed home to raise their daughter Marsha and son Gary. Both Lee and Dee enjoyed many activities together including ballroom and square dancing. Dee and Lee were members of the East Whittier Methodist Church where they were in the adult choir. Dee directed boys choir in addition to playing the organ for Sunday services. Dee was a fine seamstress and made many clothes for the family. Every year the family took camping vacations taking Dee’s mom along until she passed at 93 years of age.

When Dee’s brother Rol homesteaded five acres in Joshua Tree, Lee and Dee were an integral part of the construction team. They spent many weekends hiking and shared every Thanksgiving in the desert for more than 50 years with the extended family. Their love for the desert led to building their retirement home nearby in the last years of Lee’s career. Dee and her husband loved the outdoors and spent their retirement years in the home they built hiking and playing golf. They were very involved with Yucca Valley United Methodist Church and as members of the Building Committee, helped oversee the construction of the new sanctuary. Dee gained immense joy from directing the church choir and the bell choir. She dedicated her time to giving voice lessons, empowering others to find their musical identity. Beyond her musical pursuits, Dee was an adventurous spirit and she found solace and excitement in nature, often indulging in her love for traveling, camping and fishing. After the loss of her husband, she moved to Auburn, California to be near her son and daughter- in-law. After her son retired, Dee followed her family to Villa Rica, Georgia where she lived out her life spending time with friends and playing the keyboard. She enjoyed fishing and bird watching until her last days.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lee Gibson; daughterMarsha Mann; brothers Byron Weiss and Rol Weiss; sister Ramona Locken; and great grandsons Ryan Soderberg & Brad Soderberg.
