Mr. Jeffrey Denver Thompson, 49, of Winston, Georgia passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017. He was born January 19, 1968 in Dekalb County, Georgia, the son of Mr. Jeff Thompson and Mrs. Nan Wood Thompson. Having served the people of Douglas County at the Douglas County Sheriffâs Office for 25 years, first as a Jailer, then a Patrol Deputy, Warrants Deputy, Sergeant, and then Lieutenant, Denverâs heart and soul was in law enforcement. But as much as he loved the Sheriffâs office, his first love was always his family, and especially his two sons who were his life. He enjoyed being a taekwondo instructor, watching MMA fighting, SEC football, and he loved old country music. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, J.D. Wood, Jr. and Myra Shaw Wood; paternal grandparents, Jeff Thompson and Lorna Hobbs Thompson; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rev. GK Abner and Jean Thrasher Abner; and uncle, Greg Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Donna Abner Thompson of Winston; sons, Marc Denver Thompson of Lithia Springs and Jeffrey Joseph Thompson of Winston; parents, Jeff and Nan Thompson of Winston; sister and brother-in-law, Ginger and Joey Smothers and niece, Katie Brooke Smothers of Winston; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jan Abner Easterwood and Danny Easterwood and niece, Haley Elizabeth Easterwood of Pell City, AL; aunt and uncle, Nora Ellen and Ronny Russell of Tuscaloosa, AL, uncle, Jerry Shaw Wood of LaGrange, aunt and uncle, Lynette and Curt Goins of Jemison, AL, aunt, Marion Jarvis Thompson of Virginia Beach, VA; great-aunt, Earline Thompson Manes of Winston; and a number of cousins also survive. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville Sunday, March 19, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, March 20, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Ephesus Baptist Church in Winston with Dr. Billy Godwin officiating. Eulogies will be provided by Lamar Camp and Jerry Wood. Musical selections will be provided by Heather Camp. Interment will follow at Ephesus Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Marc Thompson, Joseph Thompson, Lamar Camp, Mike Baker, Terry McClendon, Phil Cowan, Joey Smothers, and Larry Brittain.
