Dirk Morrell

Morrell, Dirk Andrew, Sgt. 1st Class (Retired), U.S. Army, 73, of Jonesboro, Georgia, passed October 12, 2017 due to complications from COPD.Born in Marburg, Germany in 1944 to Ruth and Paul Morrell, he is survived by two brothers, Ronald (Robert) and Rene' (Carol); eight children: son Andrew and wife Paula of Bullhead City, AZ; son Frank and wife Wendy of Monroe, GA; daughter Antonia Barnett and husband David of Fairbanks, AK; daughter Alexandra Easterwood and husband Clint of Temple, GA; son Maxx and wife Briana of Fairbanks, AK; daughter Dawn Fisher of Loganville, GA; daughter Wendy Morrell of Monroe, GA, and daughter Morgen Holden and husband Dan of Austin, TX. Nineteen grandchildren: Stormie, Tali, Amanda, Lia, Nazareth, David Jr., Reno, Shawn, Amy, Alexandra, Nathan, Meagan, Aden, Dezmon, Daniel, Ella, Sophia, Baret and Samuel. He is also survived by several great grandchildren. He was the doting caretaker of his pets Izzy the cat and Peaches the bird. Dirk was very active in the community serving as a lead member for AA and sponsored many loved individuals. He was a loving and nurturing father. He was loved by all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Words truly cannot describe the profound impact he had on so many people.During Dirk's time in the Army, he served in numerious countries. He was proudest of his service with the 82nd Airborne Division out of Fort Bragg, NC. He was also a veteran of the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Army he worked for Clayton State University where he retired after approximately 25 years.A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. at the Jonesboro Firehouse Museum located at 103 West Mill Street, Jonesboro, GA. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests donations be made to the Clayton House Inc., PO Box 1304, Jonesboro, GA 30236.
