Don Whitmire

Mr. Don Shelby Whitmire, age 77, of Douglasville, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014. He was born August 10, 1936 in Hall County, GA, the son of the late Mr. Curtis F. Whitmire and the late Mrs. Hattie Lancaster Whitmire. Mr. Whitmire served in the United States Navy. He worked as a Truck Driver/ Warehouse Manager for many years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Whitmire Pollock and Sue Whitmire Monaghan.He is survived by his wife, Lillian Daniel Whitmire of Douglasville; son and daughter-in-law, Dwane and Jeanne Whitmire of Douglasville; two sisters, Doris Brannon of Gainesville, Pat Culberson of Acworth; four grandchildren, Johnathan and Shannon Whitmire of Dallas, First Lt. Cody and Katie Whitmire of Douglasville, Ashley Whitmire Laster and husband, Charlie Laster of Douglasville, Courtney Whitmire Woodason and husband ENSIGN Nathan Woodason of Jacksonville, FL; five great-grandchildren, Eli Whitmire of Dallas, Kate Laster of Douglasville, Jackson Laster of Douglasville, Wesley Woodason of Jacksonville, FL and Emma Whitmire of Douglasville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Monday, May 19, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Memorial Services will be conducted Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Susie Brannon Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to the Douglas County Animal Shelter, 8700 Hospital Drive, Douglasville, GA 30134 or Tranquility Hospice at Kennesaw Mountain, 475 Dickson Ave. Marietta, GA 30064.
