Donald Ray “Don” Bowlick, 84, of Douglasville, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of May 17, 2019 after a brief illness. Don was born August 20, 1934, in Maitland, WV, to George Earl, Sr. and Nannie Florence Crabtree Bowlick. He married Helen, the love of his life, in 1955. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Bowlick, Sisters-in-laws Lillian Bowlick, Peggy Barfield, Louise Stegall, Dixie Register, and Brothers-in-laws A.F. Barfield, Jr., Tommy Lewis, James Stegall, Willard Cone, and niece Kimberly Bailey. Don is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Helen Cone Bowlick; children: Gary Bowlick and wife Donna, Terri Mund and husband Tod, Jenny Groover and husband Kenny, and Tim Bowlick and wife Julie; grandchildren Michael Groover, Kevin Groover, Joshua Bowlick, Hillary Cranford, Shawna Moody, Carrie Groce, Mitchell Mund, Brian Mund, Meagan Bowlick, Marianna Mund, Alan Mund, Gibson Bowlick, Douglas Mund, and Robert Mund; great-grandchildren Braden Groover, Marissa Groover, Eli Groover, Emery Bowlick, William Bowlick, Aiden Moody, Mason Cranford, Grady Cranford, Zoe Groce, Claire Mund, RemingtonMund, and Cadence Groce. In addition to these, Don is survived by his brothers and sisters: David Bowlick and wife Katie, Janice Duncan and husband Bill, Patricia Lewis, George Bowlick, Jr. and wife Karen, Norma Loner and husband Larry, Jeff Bowlick and wife Debbie, and Elaine Mick and husband Jerry; brother-in-law Wayne Cone, and numerous nieces and nephews.Don graduated from Welch High School in 1952 and served in the U. S. Air Force from 1953-1957. He served as Director of Music at Bayside Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, VA, Tabernacle Baptist in Carrollton, GA, First Baptist Church in Bremen, GA., and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Villa Rica, GA. As a faithful member of First Baptist Church Douglasville since 1988 and he loved worshipping his Lord Jesus singing in the choir. In addition to his great love of music, Don had many varied interests. He retired as a manger from Goodyear Tire in the 1980’s and began his teaching career at Alexander High School when it opened until his retirement. He had a love for building any and everything including furniture, boats, airplanes, and guns. As an expert marksman and gunsmith, he loved to hunt and target shoot. His hands were never idle. He was a charter member of the Carroll County EAA Chapter. In the late 1990’s he began building a 7/8 scale WWI bi-wing Neuport II Italian fighter plane in the basement of their home. In 2001, he, along with several other local pilots, enjoyed flying this kit plane around Carroll and Douglas Counties. The plane now hangs in the EAA hanger at Carrollton Airport.The family would like to express deep gratitude to all the staff at Benton House of Douglasville, and to the nurses who served us from Homestead Hospice.The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Saturday, May 18, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Dr. John Pennington, Rev. Tim Aiken and Rev. Michael Kimberly officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Villa Rica. The following grandsons will serve as pallbearers, Joshua Bowlick, Mitchell Mund, Brian Mund, Alan Mund, Gibson Bowlick, Douglas Mund, and Robert Mund. Servings as Honorary Pallbearers, men from the First Baptist Church of Douglasville Yeoman’s Sunday School Class.
