Donald Thomas Groover

Mr. Donald Thomas Groover, 67, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Sunday, February 3, 2008 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton. He was born August 26, 1940 in Fulton County, Georgia the son of the late Mr. Freeman Groover and the late Mrs. Katherine Forbes Groover. He married Phyllis Smith on March 5, 1978 in Douglasville. He was a member of Glenloch Baptist Church in Roopville and retired from Lockheed Martin in 2000. While he was an avid golfer, his passion was music. He sang with the “Collegiates” for 21 years. In recent years he dedicated his musical talent in service to Jesus Christ, his Lord. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Groover and daughter, Rhonda Groover. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Smith Groover of Carrollton; Kip Groover, Vince Groover, Nikki and Jimmy Marr, Trina and John Rogers; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Richard Hartis and Sharon and Terry Garfield; brothers and sisters-in-law, Johnny and Beverly Groover and David and Marilyn Mize; 14 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The celebration of his life will be conducted Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Glenloch Baptist Church in Roopville with Pastor Neil Awbrey and Rev. Jimmy Marr officiating. Mr. Groover will lie in state at the church beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Glenloch Baptist Church Cemetery. In his honor pallbearers will be: Tommy Bullard, Jim Findley, Charles Griffin, Wendell Gurley, Leslie Jones, Frank Richardson, Jerry Rollins and Julian Smith. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Douglas Chapel, Tuesday, February 5, 2008 from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM and from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
