Donna Fleming Bowman

Donna Fleming Bowman, 73, of Villa Rica, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. She was born on December 4, 1949 in Greenwood, Mississippi. She is the daughter of the late Fester William Fleming and the late Emma Verna Myles.

Teaching and caring for others dominated Donna’s life. She discovered her calling to education early, accompanying her brother, Ronnie, on his route as a school bus driver. First, as a music teacher, and later as one in second grade and special education, she shaped and encouraged three decades’ worth of students along the way.

Her husband, Donny, still got to have their son, Matt’s, birthday cake through a straw after he broke his jaw in a softball game because she blended it with 7Up, her favorite. Her daughter, Erin, owes her ability to swim to Donna, which was something that she never learned herself, by lightly tossing her back to the instructor in the pool. “You can do it Erin! I love you!” she exclaimed.

Everyone, most especially her family, has and is still learning from her tenacity and kindness and unwavering love and generosity. Mama always had time to show her grandchildren ways to express their creativity: In Harlee and Aden’s drawings and stories, or, in Ezra and Elli’s fascination with gears and levers, she was never too busy to facilitate their curiosity to its potential.

We love you always, Mama. Even if you are not here, you are always present with us. We know that you are driving that school bus with Ronnie, now, but don’t let him take the wheel. He is a terrible driver. Your older sister, Linda, is in the back with her head hanging out the window again. You keep teaching us every day.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Ronnie Fleming and her sister, Linda Randall.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Donny Bowman; daughter, Erin Landrum and her husband, Lee of Acworth, Georgia; son, Matthew Bowman and his wife, Jana of Hampton, Illinois; grandchildren, Harlee, Aden, Ezra, Elli; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Villa Rica Chapel. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Villa Rica Chapel with Mr. Phil Hanberry officiating.
