Doris Childs

Mrs. Doris Rister Childs, 93, of Villa Rica, Georgia formerly of Alabama, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017. She was born September 10, 1923 in Birmingham, Alabama, the daughter of the late Mr. Benjamin Tillman Rister and the late Mrs. Essie Virginia Ward Rister. She was a homemaker and seamstress. She was a loving wife, mother, grandma, and Mimi. She was of the Southern Baptist Faith and she enjoyed singing at church. She was a devoted prayer warrior. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Leon Childs in 1989; brother, Benjamin Alan Rister; and sister-in-law, Mary Hunter Rister. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Karl Mills of Villa Rica; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Allen and Susan Childs of Deatsville, AL; two grandchildren and their spouses, Rebekah and James Simpson of Villa Rica, GA, and Doug and Vera Childs of Athens, AL; four great-grandchildren, Rayleigh, Brayden, Karson, and Hayes Simpson and four additional great-grandchildren; niece, Bettina Rister of Decatur, AL. Graveside Services will be conducted Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 3:00 PM EST at Decatur City Cemetery with James Simpson officiating. Interment will follow at Decatur City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Doris Childs may be made to King’s Home, P.O. Box 162, 221 Kings Home Drive, Chelsea, Alabama 35043.
