Doris Jean Street Jackson, 93, arrived in her heavenly home on Friday, August 23, 2024. She was born to the late Arthur and Rena Hathaway Street on April 11, 1931. She was born and raised in Johnson City, Tennessee. Doris was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Douglasville, Georgia. A heartfelt thanks to Ebenezer Baptist friends who continued to remember her with cards, calls and prayers.
Doris was married to Donald Lee Jackson for 57 years prior to his passing. She has also been reunited with their daughter, Vicki Lynn Green, who joined her husband Emory “Babe” Green in heaven in 2017. Also, passing before Doris were her brothers, Arthur Street, Jr and Bill Street and sister Vivian Rollins.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Jan and Bob Hargrove; grandchildren Cindy Green, Amissa and Michael Greer, Stephanie and Ashley Parson, and Robert and Grace Hargrove; great grandchildren Kayla and Scott Reese, Brett and Lea Parson, Breelyn and Richard Lester, Tanner Greer, Cash Hargrove, Jackson Greer, Blakley Parson, Aylor Hargrove, Selah Greer, Bray Hargrove, Rollyn Hargrove, and Quince Hargrove; and great great granddaughters Paisley and Lainey Parson. She is also survived by her brother, Jerry and Jean Street, and sister, Jo Ann Williams Hiatt, nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Doris attended Crossnore School in Crossnore, NC for her high school years. She moved to Atlanta, met Donald, and they married in 1951. Their love for each other and family has always been faithful and unconditional. They were a safe home for too many family members to count, known for their love, work ethic, and understanding nature. Donald, Doris, Jan and Vick made their home in Atlanta, moving to Douglasville, Georgia in the summer of 1968. Doris was a loving, devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and aunt.
Beginning in 2008 after Donald’s passing, her daughter and son in law, Jan and Bob, began to ask her about moving to be a part of their home. On the three year passing of Vick, March 14, 2020, Doris, known as a most selfless, compassionate, and independent woman, moved to Spartanburg, SC. It was Jan and Bob’s great honor to have her in their home. She brought love, joy, goodness, and peace to all of us, for all of her years. She has been a beautiful example of perseverance and grace all of her days. While we grieve here for her, we rejoice that she is completely healed and with her loved ones who have gone before.
