Birdie Doris Yates, 94, of Lithia Springs, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. She was born on September 30, 1931, the daughter of the late Ezzie and Priscilla Smith.
At the age of twenty-two, Doris married the love of her life Gordon, and together they built a beautiful family. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, enveloping them in love that was as deep as it was unconditional. She was adored by her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Grandee," she created a legacy of love, laughter, and heartfelt memories that will forever remain in their hearts.
Doris was a dedicated homemaker; she not only took care of her family but also played an integral role in her husband's construction business for many years. Her hard work and unwavering support were a true testament to her love and devotion to her family. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Lithia Springs, where she had many friends, she worshipped with. She was a phenomenal southern cook who enjoyed cooking for her family. She had a special bond with her sister-in-law, Julia Carlock, and Julia’s children and spouses who held a treasured place in Doris’s heart.
Doris embraced life’s simple pleasures with open arms, often traveling to Daytona beach where she found peace and joy in the waves and sunshine. It was a place where her spirit thrived.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gordon Yates, to whom she was married to for forty-six years.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Gary and Cindy Yates of Villa Rica, Joe Yates and Linda Damron of Douglasville; grandchildren, David Yates (Gwen), Joseph Yates (Charlotte), Kristin Yates Nicholas (Dave) and Brittany Yates Klein (Lance); great-grandchildren, Trevor, Dawson, Bella, Sophie, Luke, Sage and Scarlett; special nieces and nephews, Danny Carlock, Doug Carlock, David Carlock, June McCollum, and Johnny McCollum; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 23, 2026 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Villa Rica Chapel with a funeral service at 12:00 PM with Rev. Darin Cochran and Mr. Johnny McCollum officiating. Interment will be at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Ringgold, Georgia.
The following will serve as pallbearers: David Yates, Joseph Yates, David Nicholas, Lance Klein, Danny Carlock, Doug Carlock, and David Carlock.
Doris’s love and spirit will continue to reside in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
