Mrs. Dorothy English Houpe, 92, of Villa Rica, Georgia formerly of Brownsville, Tennessee passed away Friday, June 17, 2016. She was born July 23, 1923 in Haywood County, Tennessee. She received her education in Haywood County, after high school she attended Miller Hawkins in Memphis. In 1941 she married Wesley M. Houpe. She was employed by Bell South in Memphis. Moving to Washington D.C. she worked as a special agent for the Census Bureau in the Geography Department until 1945. She was then employed by S.C. Toof in accounting until 1954. She then joined the Heinz Baby Food staff as a counselor working closely with H.J. Heinz doing detail, working with doctors and hospitals. Later she and a friend opened a Childcare Center. In 1980 she and her husband retired and moved to Gadsden, Alabama. Mrs. Houpe was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church for 30 years in Gadsden, Alabama. Upon returning to Brownsville, Tennessee she returned to her family church, Trinity Methodist in Nutbush. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Malcolm Houpe in 1995. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald C. Houpe (Jerri) of Villa Rica, GA; and Judge David Vance Houpe (Mary Ann) of Annadell, VA; daughter, Dr. Lee Reubens of Gibraltar, Spain; grandchildren, Dr. Christina Porthouse (Dr. John Porthouse) of Baton Rouge, LA and grandson, Robert Wesley Houpe of Austin, TX; three great-grandchildren, Conner Porterhouse, Sara Houpe, and Maeve Houpe. Graveside Services will be conducted at Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM CST at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, TN. The family respectfully requests no flowers, contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent to St. Judeâs Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the charity of the donorâs choice.
