Mrs. Dovie Ruth Bennett Stamey, age 91, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Douglasville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Douglasville following an extended illness. She was born July 27, 1919 in Bolton, Georgia. She was the only remaining child of the late Mr. Oscar M. Bennett and Mrs. Vonnie Woods Bennett. She had twelve other siblings. She met and married Byron Ruskin Painter and had two children, Jean and Byron. After divorce and years of being alone with her children, she married Garnett Stamey. They resided in Atlanta and Duluth, Georgia. After her retirement from Pfizer Pharmaceuticals they moved to live fulltime in Hiawassee, Georgia. She was active in the Hiawassee Garden Club where she served as Garden Club President for several years, worked as a Pink Lady volunteer at the hospital, served on the Board of Family and Children Services, was a lifetime member of the Order of the Easter Star, served as an advisor for the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, and helped start a chapter of the Girls Scouts. Jean said that âI knew when I had done something not very pleasing for her forehead would wrinkle and she would give me that look Motherâs give. All of you know exactly what I mean. But she was the most forgiving human being I have ever known, and you canât know how many times I thanked God for that. Her loving and caring nature made those who knew her to feel that she had always been their friend.â She was a truly loved one, especially to her family. She is survived by her daughter, Jean and her three children and grandchildren; and by her son, Byron M. Painter and his wife, two children, grandchildren and great-grandson. She is also survived by her dearest friend and niece, Evelyn and all her other nieces and nephews and their families. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 11:00 AM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Douglasville. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, Tuesday, October 19, 2010 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
