Dr. Garland Wayne Odom, a kind and Godly man, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, at the age of 93. Dr. Garland was born on September 15, 1931 in Sycamore, Georgia to the late Bernice Lee DeFoore Odom and Raymond Paul Odom. Dr. Garland dedicated his life to his faith, family, and the call to serve others. He was a devoted husband and loving father, whose commitment to his loved ones and God was evident in all he did.
Dr. Garland was not only a cherished family man but also possessed a deep passion for spreading God's word. His commitment to his faith took him around the world on numerous mission trips, where he touched the lives of many with his compassion and generosity.
A lover of the great outdoors, Dr. Garland found joy in fishing, often sharing these peaceful moments with family and friends. These experiences were not just hobbies for him; but a reflection of his appreciation for God's creation and the bonds shared with those he held dear.
As we remember Dr. Odom, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by love, faith, and service to others. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and the countless lives he impacted throughout his journey on this earth.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Garland is preceded in death by his wife Johnnie Lou Moore Odom and sister, Cortez Camp.
He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Melanie (Doug) Buffington and Melissa Freeman of Douglasville; sons and daughters-in-law, Stanley (Katie) Odom of Powder Springs and Joel (Ginger) Peacock of Marietta; five grandchildren, Cameron (Julie) Freeman, Brandon (Danyelle) Odom, Ashley (JL) Tucker, Blake (Lindsey) Buffington and Tiffany (Chase) Garmon; eight great grandchildren, Hayden, Camden, Carson, Kelsey, Reece, Payton, Erin, and Sophia; as well as one great great grandson, Cooper.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 21, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Happy Valley Baptist Church at 605 Main Street in Villa Rica with interment to follow at Melrose Cemetery in Villa Rica.
