Dr. John Broadus âJ.B.â Marlow, age 91, of Villa Rica, Georgia passed away Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton following a brief illness. He was born April 18, 1917 in Bibb County, Georgia the son of the late Mr. John Leonard Marlow, Sr. and the late Mrs. Ada Pearl Towns Marlow. He married Ruth Louise Price on June 26, 1938. He was a graduate of Mercer University in Macon. He was in the graduating Class of 1946 from the Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. While attending seminary he served as a student pastor in several small churches in Texas. He served at the First Tabernacle Baptist Church of Macon where he was the Director of Music and Associate Pastor. His first full time pastorate was at Bellview Baptist Church in Macon and has subsequently served as Pastor at Churches in Macon, Lanett, AL, Anniston, AL, Talladega, AL, Denver, CO, Atlanta, Rossville, and retired from full time pastorate from the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica where he served faithfully as Pastor Emeritus. He was a member of the Berean Sunday School Class. In his retirement he has served many churches as interim pastor in Georgia and Alabama. He served on the executive board of the Rocky Mountain Baptist Convention and was an executive in the Georgia Pastors Conference. He has served as a Professor at the Mercer University Extension Service. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from a renowned theological school in Colorado. He was member Emeritus of the Villa Rica Masonic Lodge #72 F&AM Dr. Marlow exemplified the heart of a servant of God throughout his 91 years. God blessed him with the insight and compassion to meet the needs of his church family and community. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Louise Price Marlow of Villa Rica; daughters, Karen Marlow Burley of Chattanooga and Robyn Marlow Young of Villa Rica; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John Broadus Marlow, Jr. and Elaine Marlow of Columbia, SC; sisters and brother-in-law, Barbara and Bruce Mahoney of Chattanooga, TN; and Bettie Butler of Tucson, AZ; brother and sister-in-law, John L. Marlow, Jr. and Barbara Marlow of Carrollton; 8 grandchildren and their spouses, Bill and Abigail Burley of Arizona, Troy and Leslie Marlow of South Carolina, Paul Young of Villa Rica, Marlow Burley of Tennessee, Evyn and Thomas Crocker of Georgia, Steven Marlow of South Carolina, Alison and Rusty Branham of South Carolina, and Phillip Young of Villa Rica, GA; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 1:00 PM from the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica with Rev. Jeff Jones officiating. Rendering eulogies will be Mr. Ed Tanner, Mr. Kerry Miller, Mr. Gary Thomas, and Mr. Phillip Young. Dr. Marlow will lie in state at the Church from 12 Noon until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens in Villa Rica. Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Burley, Troy Marlow, Paul Young, Phillip Young, Thomas Crocker, and Steven Marlow. Members of the Berean Sunday School Class will serve as honorary escort. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home of Villa Rica, Monday, September 15, 2008 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
