Dr. Walter Penn Culpepper, age 88, of Douglasville, Georgia peacefully passed, his wife Virginia by his side, on Friday, February 19, 2010 overlooking the gardens of their home. Penn was born on December 2, 1921 in Mableton, Georgia the son of Walter Lewis Culpepper and Queen Victoria Eason Culpepper Moon. Walter Lewis died when Penn was six months old. Pennâs mother passed in 1968. Penn was also predeceased by his half brother Roy Eason and Wendell Culpepper, Pennâs son. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Ruth Price Culpepper of Douglas County and children Martha Jean Childers, Dr. Allen Culpepper both of Douglasville, Sherri Ozcomert of Atlanta, Kathi and Cory Aja of Villa Rica, grandchildren Craig Childers of Powder Springs, Derrick Childers of Canton, Anna and Christopher Culpepper both of Asheville, NC and three great grandchildren. Dr. Culpepper served as a Medic in WWII from 1942-46 in England, France and Germany. Returning home, Penn worked at Sears and married Virginia on April 25, 1947. Moving his family to Iowa in 1957 to attend Palmer Chiropractic College, Penn graduated in 1960. After actively practicing for 45 years, he continued chiropractic, gardening and enjoying his family at home until his death. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Jones Wynn Funeral Home, 2189 Midway Road, Douglasville with Dr. Marvin Frady, Rev. Randy Locke, Rev. Charles Rogers, and Rev. JoAnne Abney officiating. Musical selections will be provided by Jim Price and Steve Ozcomert. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 20, 2010 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel.
