Mr. D.S. Carter, 93, of Lithia Springs, Georgia passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017. He was born in Surrency, Georgia, the son of the late Mr. John Wade Carter and the late Mrs. Fannie Dubberly Carter. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard Merchant Marines having served during World War II. He retired from the United States Postal Service as a Postman having served for over 39 years at the Hapeville Post Office. He was a longtime, devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Lithia Springs and was a member of The Progressive Sunday School Class. He completed the Walk to Emmaus and was an active member of the Northwest Georgia WTE community for many years. He volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program for over 23 years. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, and square dancing for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha Maude Hedden Carter; second wife, Donna Marie Brown Carter; two brothers and seven sisters. He is survived by a daughter, LCDR Teresa Carter of Douglasville; sons and a daughter-in-law, Danny Carter of Lithia Springs and Wayne and Jody Carter of Nashville, TN; stepdaughter, Terry Robeson of Atlanta; three grandchildren, Melissa Carter and her fiancé, Andy Zall, LT Jeremy and CPO Rosemary Carter, and Jason Carter; six great-grandchildren, James Carter, Jacob Carter, Ethan Carter, Ava Carter, Zander Zall, and Dylan Zall; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Mr. D.S. Carter will lie in state at the Lithia Springs First United Methodist Church, Wednesday, October 25, 2017 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Lithia Springs First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Merk officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at Crest Lawn Memorial Park in Atlanta. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Armed Forces Honor Guard.
