Edna Finnell

November 24, 1922 — March 3, 2017

Mrs. Edna Slaton Finnell, age 94, of Villa Rica, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017. She was born November 24, 1922 in Haralson County the daughter of the late Mr. Grady Slaton and the late Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Lewis Slaton. Edna became known as “Munner” when granddaughter Anna started talking. People everywhere called her “Munner” or “Miss Edna” or to one fellow in particular “Edny”. Munner never met a stranger or a person she didn’t like. Her bubbly personality an infectious smile won people over. She had various jobs in her lifetime, including bookkeeper at Jean Hosiery Mill, substitute teacher at Sand Hill Elementary and a longtime custodian at Fullerville Baptist Church, only ending that as her health failed at almost 94 years old. For many years she worked in the bus ministry, first at White Oak Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, GA then at Fullerville in Villa Rica. She touched many people’s lives through the ministry. Edna became a Christian at the age of 16 and led an exemplary Christian life.Munner was an excellent southern cook; whose biscuits are the stuff legends are made of. She was mischievous and if told to be good would say there was no fun in that. Miss Edna loved to go places and drove until before her 94th birthday. She visited shut-ins and “elderly”, who were often younger than her. She attended football games, band competitions, and art shows in support of her grandchildren. Edna will be greatly missed by all the people whose lives she touched. Until we meet again, Munner you will never be forgotten. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Horace Elmo Finnell; son, Timothy Finnell; sisters, Verna Lanier, Bessie Carroll, Eva Enterkin, Elsie Slaton and her identical twin, Edith Watson. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Anthony Finnell, Sr.and wife, Cindy Finnell of Villa Rica; daughters and son-in-law, Judith Driggers of Charlotte, NC, Gloria Turner and husband, Terry Turner of Villa Rica; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and best friend, Cora Shirley also survive.
