Mrs. Edna Douglas Pitts, age 97, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Monday, November 25, 2013 at Delmar Gardens in Smyrna. She was born September 25, 1916 in Butler County, Alabama the daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Franklin Douglas and the late Mrs. Annie Ola Smith Douglas. She retired in 1979 after a rewarding career in retail sales at Woolworth. She also worked at Sunland Training Center in Gainesville, Florida which was her most enjoyable job and worked on a deep sea fishing boat in Cedar Key, Florida with her late husband. In 2006, she was crowned Ms. Delmar Gardens by the reigning Ms. Georgia 2005 and went on to compete on the national level. She loved her roles of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Sardis Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Taft Pitts; her children, John Frank Pitts, Janie Robinson, Jeanette Cannon and Douglas Wayne Pitts; siblings, Carl Douglas, Leonard Douglas, Clarice Parker, Sally Green, Gertrude Davenport, Thelma Span, and Sybil Parker. She is survived by daughters-in-law, Carol Pitts of Douglasville and Peggy Pitts Hall of Powder Springs; son-in-law, Cleveland Cannon of Florida; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The casket will be draped in honor and memory of Mrs. Edna Pitts with a handmade quilt, made by her own hand. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, Sunday, December 1, 2013 from 10:00 AM until 12:30 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, December 1, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville with Rev. Tommy Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Atlanta. The family wishes to express their extreme gratitude to the staff at Delmar Gardens for their care and love shown to Mrs. Pitts.
