Edward was the middle child of three children he and his siblings Allen Belford Austin (Leenora); Vivan Brown (Paul) grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He graduated from E.E. Smith High School, home of the Golden Bulls. Soon after, he answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Air Force. After seven years of honorable service in the Air Force, Edward took a brief pause before continuing his military career with the United States Army. He served faithfully as an Ammunition Technician for 20 years. Following his retirement from the Army, he worked in civil service, retiring a second time before devoting himself fully to the things he loved most.
Edward enjoyed traveling, reading, and his lifelong fascination with trains and planes. These hobbies gave him great joy and peace throughout his life. He especially cherished spending time with his daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless friends across the United States.
