Mr. Edward Quinlan, age 84, of Douglasville, went to his heavenly home Monday, September 2, 2019 surrounded by family at his home. He was born February 5, 1935 in Methuen, Massachusetts, the son of the late Mr. John Quinlan and the late Mrs. Ruth Quinlan Liehr. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and worked as a project manager in the commercial construction industry. Mr. Quinlan was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Douglasville. He was the eldest of 5 children and he started working delivering papers at about the age of 10. He also worked at his uncles farm in exchange for food to supplement his familys needs. He learned to cook, iron and sew to help his mother provide for his family. As he grew he became a boy scout and then advanced to eagle scout and then on to a scout leader. After graduating high school he became a bank courier and other jobs as needed. He then enlisted into the United States Marine Corps to serve his country during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Atlanta to attend Oglethorpe University from money he saved up by transporting other soldiers and helping them with things they needed to learn how to do. He started working for the US Treasury Department where he met his wife of 60 years. They settled in Douglas County built a home and family and became members of First Presbyterian Church soon after it was established when there were only about 40 members. He served as youth leader, scout leader, Sunday school teacher and elder. In later years he established the Funeral Guild that we have today. In addition to his parents, Mr. Quinlan was predeceased by his son, Edward Quinlan II; his brother, Martin Quinlan; and his sister, Marion Jean Melucci. Mr. Quinlan is survived by his wife, Mildred Parr Quinlan of Douglasville; his brother, John Walter Quinlan of New Hampshire; two grandchildren, Paul Quinlan, his wife, Christina Danielle Quinlan and Christina Marie Quinlan, all residents of Douglasville; great grandchildren Shayla Rose, Cole Edward and Aubrianna Jean Marie. According to Mr. Quinlans wishes, he was cremated. A memorial service with military honors will be held Saturday, September 7, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church of Douglasville, 9190 Campbellton Street, Douglasville GA 30135. Visitation will begin at 12:30PM.
